How to Choose the Right Supplements For Your Pets

How to Choose the Right Supplements For Your Pets

As pet parents we always want to make sure our dogs and cats are happy and healthy. But how do you know if they are feeling something they can’t tell us or something is going on with their health?

We can help you better understand what your pets health needs are and what factors to consider when choosing the right supplements.

Where to Start?

A balanced diet is the key to your pet's health! Before you even start looking into supplements you need to make sure your pet is getting a well rounded meal. Just like humans, our pet’s need nutrients and vitamins to thrive. Dogs can get these from a mix of meat and plant sources, whereas cats require a diet primarily consisting of meat. Understanding this can be a good starting point for the building blocks of a meal.

Pet’s need exercise too. Every breed is different but all pet’s need exercise in their life whether that’s a walk around the block or playing with your cat. Having regular exercise can help make sure your pet stays in shape and keeps their joints moving.

Signs Your Pet May Benefit From Supplements:

You understand your pet best, so observing them can tell you a lot more about how they are feeling. Here are some signs that may indicate your pet needs something more;

Lack of energy: Pet’s do slow down as they get older, but this shouldn’t be sudden. If you notice your pet is sleeping more often or lacks their usual energy, this could be a sign that something is wrong.

Dull coat or skin issue: A soft shiny coat is a clear sign of a healthy pet! If your pet's coat looks dull or you are noticing skin issues such as a rash or flakey dry skin, this could be a sign that your pet needs a supplement to help improve these conditions.

Digestive issues: You can tell a lot by your pets toilet habits, whether that’s diarrhoea or they don’t go enough, something is going on inside that you need to take note of.

Mobility issues: Our pets can’t tell us if they are feeling sore, but their movements and actions can help us better understand what they are feeling. This could be anything from how they move from lying/sitting to standing or how they balance their weight when moving around.

In a dog you may notice a lack of encouragement to play, run and get up on furniture. For cats the key sign is movement! Are they sleeping more, are they more hesitant to jump from different heights? All of these could be signs that something else is going on with your pet that they can’t tell you.

Prevention is Key!

While not all pet’s need joint care supplements, there is no harm in looking after them before they get to the point where they experience pain. Our range of Green-lipped Mussel Supplements are 100% natural so including these products from a young age can help care for their joint health as they grow.

Understanding Your Breed:

It’s common knowledge that certain breeds are more susceptible to health issues than others. To make sure you are looking after your pets needs it's important to know what are common issues with your breed and how you can care for them leading up to if these are to occur.

Important Things to Consider:

Supplements can be an amazing way to naturally care for your pets health, but vets are also extremely important! We recommend that if you think your pet's health is lacking it’s always best to talk with your vet. Discuss with your vet the changes or symptoms you are noticing and discuss with them if our supplements are the way to go.

Make sure if you know of your pet’s allergies and you are looking for an ingredients list. All of our supplements information can be found on their product pages, or just ask us!
